How to Export Trades from TopstepX (CSV or API Sync)
Export your TopstepX trades to CSV in five steps, read the UTC times correctly, or sync trades automatically with a TopstepX API key.
To export trades from TopstepX, open the Trades tab at the bottom of the trading screen, click Export, choose your date range and click Export again. The file downloads as a CSV with one row per completed trade. Its times are reported to be in UTC, so tell your journal that when you import. If you'd rather not export at all, TopstepX's paid API access lets a journal read your trades automatically with an API key.
Trades or Orders: which TopstepX export do you need?
TopstepX can export from either the Orders tab or the Trades tab. For a journal, use Trades:
- Trades has one row per finished trade, with the entry and exit already matched.
- Orders lists every order you placed, including cancelled ones, which a journal would have to filter and pair.
Several journal tools specifically ask for the Trades export and won't read the Orders file.
How to export your trades from TopstepX (step by step)
- Log in to TopstepX and open the trading screen.
- Check which account is selected, if you have more than one combine or funded account.
- Open the Trades tab at the bottom of the page.
- Click Export.
- Choose the date range, then click Export again.
- Wait for the confirmation at the bottom-left of the screen. The file is saved to your downloads.
These steps follow Topstep's help article on TopstepX. If the screen looks different, check there first.
What's in the TopstepX trades file?
Community scripts that convert this file list these columns:
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
Id |
The trade's ID |
ContractName |
The contract, such as MNQZ6 (market, month code, year) |
EnteredAt, ExitedAt |
Entry and exit time |
EntryPrice, ExitPrice |
Average entry and exit price |
Size |
Contracts |
Type |
Long or Short |
PnL |
The trade's profit or loss |
Fees |
Fees for the trade |
TradeDay |
The trading day it counts towards |
Fees are in their own column, so check whether your journal subtracts them from PnL. Topstep's trading day doesn't always match the calendar date: a trade on Sunday evening, for example, can count towards Monday.
What time zone are TopstepX exports in?
The export's times are reported to be in UTC, not your local time. That matters if you trade from the UK:
- In winter, UK time is UTC, so the times match your clock.
- In British Summer Time, the UK is UTC+1, so a trade you took at 14:35 shows as 13:35.
The easiest check is to find one trade you remember, such as the first trade of a session, and compare the file's time with the chart. If your journal lets you set the file's zone, choose UTC.
Automatic sync with a TopstepX API key
Instead of exporting files, you can let a journal read your trades through the TopstepX API. You create a key in TopstepX and paste it into the journal; you never hand over your password.
What it costs
API access is a paid Topstep add-on. In October 2026 Topstep's API access page listed it at $29 a month, with a 50% code for Topstep traders that brings it to $14.50. Prices change, so check the page before you subscribe.
How to set it up
- Subscribe to API access through the ProjectX dashboard and link it to your TopstepX profile, as Topstep's help page describes.
- In TopstepX, open Settings, then the API tab, and click Add API Key.
- Copy the key and store it somewhere safe.
- Paste it into your journal along with your TopstepX username (not your email).
Keep it read-only
Topstep's help page warns that an API key gives full trading access to every eligible account on your profile. So:
- Only give it to tools you trust, and only to tools that read.
- Topstep's rules sum this up as your server can "watch and record, but it cannot trade". Trading must come from your own device.
- Topstep doesn't endorse or support third-party tools, so using one is at your own risk.
- When you stop using a tool, disconnect it and remove the key from TopstepX's API settings.
Marble supports this route. You paste your TopstepX username and key under Connections, choose which Topstep accounts go into which Marble accounts, and the first sync brings in the last 90 days. Marble only reads trades and never places orders. The key is stored encrypted and only Marble's server can use it.
Export or API: which should you choose?
| CSV export | API sync | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Topstep's monthly API fee |
| Effort | Export and upload each time | Set up once |
| Freshness | As fresh as your last export | New trades arrive on their own |
| Risk | No credentials shared | A powerful key, held by the tool |
If you trade every day and review often, sync saves time. If you review weekly, a weekly export may be all you need.
How to import a TopstepX file into a journal
- Upload the CSV as downloaded. Don't open and re-save it in a spreadsheet, which can change the dates.
- Pick the account, for example your current combine or funded account.
- Set the time zone to UTC if your journal asks.
- Check a trade or two against TopstepX.
- Add your initial stop and setup, so the journal can work out your R multiple and group results by setup.
Troubleshooting
- Times are an hour out. The journal read UTC times as UK time, or the other way round.
- Trades are missing. Check the selected account and date range. A trade near midnight may sit on a different
TradeDayfrom the date you expect. - Contract names look different.
MNQZ6andMNQH7are both MNQ, just different months. A good journal groups them as one market. - Duplicates after re-exporting. Use a journal that matches on the trade
Id, or don't overlap your date ranges.

With Marble you can import your TopstepX file today, or connect an API key once and let new trades arrive on their own. Start with Marble.

Questions
Is the TopstepX API free?
No. API access is a paid add-on. In October 2026 Topstep's help centre listed it at $29 a month, with a 50% discount code for Topstep traders. Check Topstep's API access page for the current price.
Can a journal place trades with my TopstepX API key?
The key itself allows trading, so treat it like a password. A journal should only read your trades. Topstep's rules allow a server to watch and record your trades but not to trade.
Should I export from the Trades tab or the Orders tab?
The Trades tab, for a journal. It gives one row per completed trade with entry, exit, size, fees and P&L. Orders lists every order, filled or not.
